Scope and policy

Journal scope

The objective of the Costa Rican Agronomy Magazine has been to disseminate the agricultural research carried out in Costa Rica or of interest in this country.

Type of publication:
Original and unpublished works of research, which have scientific or technical merit in the opinion of the Editorial Board.
Technical notes, which are advances or parallel results of ongoing research.
Updates on specific agricultural activities.
Analysis and commentary on relevant topics, requested from specialists.
Comprehensive literature reviews on a specific topic.
Book Reviews.
Comments and opinions on activities of interest in the agricultural field.

Stringent peer reviewing: The papers published in the  Journal Agronomía Costarricense are the product of a rigorous selection process, which includes the editorial board in the first instance and arbitration conducted by national and international specialists.

Form and preparation of manuscripts

The papers published in the Costa Rican Agronomy Magazine are the product of a rigorous selection, which includes the Editorial Board in the first instance and the arbitration carried out by national and international specialists, through the system of double-blind peer review.
Papers can be written in Spanish or English. They must conform to the rules of structure and drafting established. English manuscripts must be reviewed and corrected in advance by a subject specialist whose mother tongue is English. The material received will not be returned to the authors.
Research papers should not exceed 20 pages and technical notes of 6 pages.
The work should come printed, in an updated version of Word for Windows and be written double-spaced in Arial 12.
The rules of the International System of Units must be followed.
Must deliver: 1 original printed, 1 hard copy and work on CD or by email.
The tables should come in Word and figures (graphs in different shades of gray) in Excel, in ascending order by numbers and letters as appropriate. Both the pictures and the figures must be presented in separate pages printed in good quality. Other figures and photographs must be submitted in eps, jpg or tiff with a minimum of 240300 dpi.
The Revista Agronomía Costarricense to date, does not charge for receiving manuscripts or for publishing research.

The author, the author (s) must grant the Revista de Agronomía Costarricense the right of its first publication and mention that it will be registered with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivShare 3.0 Costa Rica license. They may include their publication in an institutional repository by clarifying their publication in the first instance in this journal.

Plagiarism detection policy

Using Google tools and DupliChecker, the Revista Agronomía Costarricense is vigilant of the sources used in the research dynamics to determine the use of original ideas without citation of the source, or by using the words of others without citing them in the Document and in the list of bibliographic references.
Likewise, plagiarism is incurred when the words of others are falsified to assume their own, or when it indicates to be the author of an investigation when its owner is another person. If a plagiarism is detected, the principal author will be indicated in writing, how will proceed.

Open access policy

This journal provides immediate free access to its content under the principle of making research open to the public, which encourages greater exchange of global knowledge.

Archive

This magazine uses the CLOCKSS system to create a file distributed among the participating libraries, allowing these libraries to create permanent files of the journal for preservation and restoration purposes. More information: http://thekeepers.org/
Structure of the manuscript:
Title. It should be clear enough so that it guides the reader about the content of the research and does not exceed 15 words.
Author. Write the full name, be it simple or compound, only a last name should appear. Write at the bottom of the page, using asterisks the address at the time of the research and the institutional email.
The author should indicate whether the modality in which the manuscript is presented is a research article, technical note, literature reviews on a specific topic, book reviews and updates or analyzes and comments on specific agricultural activities. However, the final decision on the modality for publication of the manuscript will be based on the criteria of the reviewers and recommendations of the members of the Editorial Board and the International Editorial Advisory Board.
Summary. This is a single paragraph where it should be noted, in a maximum of 300 words, the purpose of the work, the procedure followed, the main results and conclusions. Try to include numbers.
Abstract. It must be accurate to the summary in Spanish and must include the title in English.
Keywords. Include 5-7 keywords that allow the user to easily locate the document.
Introduction. It should include the justification of the work, the
Relevant until then on the subject and the concrete objective of the work.
Materials and methods. It refers to all materials or components required for the development of the research with a detailed description of the same to achieve specific results. If the author requires a specialized program must present a description and convenience of its use to achieve the results.
Results and discussion (they can come together or separate). Its content is based on the results obtained from the objective set out in the research. Regardless of their complexity, they need to be exposed clearly and simply. The results can be numbers, categories or groupings of objects or subjects of study. The presentation of the results must be characterized by the accuracy and legitimacy of the facts and figures recorded, so that results that are based only on qualifications such as: much, little, more, less, quite; Since it could lead to an inaccurate interpretation that weakens the investigation.
Acknowledgments.. This section only includes those people who made a very significant contribution to the work.
