Abstract
CASTRO VALLE, Fabian; MAZO FIGUEROA, Pilar and QUINTANILLA GODOY, Paola. Key instruments to school management: a case study, on chile´s preferential school subsidies. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.3, pp.97-128. ISSN 1409-4703. http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/aie.v16i3.25958.
The general objective of this article is to show the results of a research project conducted during the years 2013 and 2014 on four primary education schools with municipal dependency, on the district of Recoleta, Santiago Metropolitan Region of Chile. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, with an exploratory and descriptive scope as a case study. The main objective was the analysis of the relationship between the Institutional Education Project (PEI) and the Education Improvement Plan (PME), in these educational units, with the aim of determining the consistency between both management instruments and identifying the PEI contents which require adjustment on the basis of the PME. Results show that: i) Schools PEIs have different structures and identities while the PME has one single elaboration logic with similar purposes; ii) Community members, in all four schools, have uneven participation in the processes of elaboration, dissemination, implementation and evaluation of PEIs and PMEs; iii) The degree of consistency between PEI and PME was variable; three schools showed a medium consistency and one a high consistency. iv) PEI contents from one school does not require adjustment, while the contents of the other three require a medium level of adjustment.
