The Scientific Electronic Library Online - SciELO is an electronic library covering a selected collection of Costa Rican scientific journals.
In Costa Rica the Scielo begins in 2000 with the coordination of BIREME - PAHO and with the support of the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social through the Biblioteca Nacional de Salud y Seguridad Social -BINASSS- including only journals Health Sciences, is currently accepting publications in other areas of knowledge.
It has a National Advisory Committee composed of BINASSS, CONICIT, Universidad de Costa Rica, Vicerrectoria de Investigacion, Escuela de Historia - UCR y el Hospital Nacional de Ninos de CCSS.
All cases relating with the journals to income Scielo-CR are discussed at meetings of the Advisory Committee, leaving on record the assessments, agreements, conclusions and other aspects to consider.

Costa Rica aims to develop SciELO purchase commitment with publishers to improve the quality and accessibility of scientific publication. The objective of SciELO is to have an electronic library that can offer full access to a collection of review, whose articles can be retrieved through indexes and search system.
The site will be constantly updated by the coordinating unit in both form and content, with advances in the methodology.

SciELO interface provides access to its serials collection via an alphabetic list of titles or a subject list or a search form by word of serial titles, publisher names, city of publication and subject.
The interface also provides access to the full text of articles via author index or subject index, or by a search form on article elements such as author names, words from title, subject, words from the full text and publication year.
