This paper is part of a research project of the Institute of Research in Education of the University of Costa Rica (INIE/UCR), named "Sexual and functional diversity. An analysis of the (re)production of subaltenity in the Costa Rican educational system". The main objective of the present article is to analyze the emplacements of those bodies that historically have been signed as "handicapped" in the educative Costa Rican system. In order to achieve this objective different documents were taken as a reference from the end of 19th century to the beginning of 21th century (laws, decrees, newspapers, bulletins, and educative journals), and they are analyzed based on a methodological combination of the foucauldian perspective of discourse and a transversal historic approach. Some of the reflections developed here, shows that institutional discourse around functional diversity is represented in a set of strategies that lead to a concise ordering of the bodies, which is especially devoted to make them useful and profitable elements (surplus values) for the system, through specific work endeavors.
Keywords : education; functional diversity; surplus value; subalternity.
