Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to examine the mental health status and the risk factors to which workers are exposed in certain areas of a manufacturing business. Methods: The measurement instruments used were: A survey of general and labor data, the scale of "Psychosocial Factors at Work" and the General Health Questionnaire of Goldberg. We performed a descriptive, cross-sectional quantitative study. The population was made up of 50 operators belonging to a particular craft of the manufacturing business. Results: Female gender predominated with 77,6 %. The average age was 36,3 years. Overall prevalence of adverse psychosocial factors in our study population was 58 % (29 subjects). We found 8 subjects (16 %) as probable cases of mental disorder; however, no significant association data was obtained. Discussion: Improving the work environment, maintain an adequate working environment including social support may decrease but mostly prevent the development of some alteration in the health of workers optimizing their quality of life.
