Abstract

This article presents the experiences related to gender violence in the workplace of women police officers of the Regional Directorate of San José in 2019. To meet its objectives, a mixed methodology was applied in which a survey, two focus groups and in-depth interviews were implemented. The main purpose was to identify manifestations related to sexist behaviors and harassment by male police officers towards their female colleagues. The analysis is carried out understanding the institutionally legitimized patriarchal structures that promote positions of power driven by machismo, which negatively affects the life and work of women police officers. It concludes by making a reflection based on the results and considering the relevance of applying actions that intervene in this problem.
