Abstract

HINKELAMMERT, Franz J.. The development of ethics: the ethics of the market and its criticism. Economía y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.60, pp.46-55. ISSN 2215-3403.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15359/eys.26-60.4.

This paper proposes an analysis of the market and market ethics based on its own operation. The subject is first analyzed from a Platonic perspective, and then from the perspectives of modern authors such as Adam Smith, Immanuel Kant, Max Weber and Ludwig Wittgenstein. It focuses on basic ethical rules: thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and thou shalt not defraud to appropriate the property of others. At the end of the article a discussion is presented of the needs, the option for choosing life, and life-and-death judgments in Spinoza and Marx.

Keywords : Norms; meansends rationality; factual judgments; value judgments; option for choosing life.
