Abstract

GALLARDO-MILANES, Olga Alicia; OLIVERA-PATARO, Cristina Satiê de  and  MEZZOMO, Frank Antonio. University students of UNESPAR-Brazil: their perceptions about sustainable development. Educación [online]. 2019, vol.43, n.1, pp.327-343. ISSN 2215-2644.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/revedu.v43i1.29025.

The article addresses the perceptions on environment and sustainable development of university students of UNESPAR-Brazil, with the aim of understanding their assessments, analyzing them from the diversity of criteria and judgments to assess their contribution to sustainability. The study was carried out with third year students from the careers of Pedagogy, History, Geography and Economics. The research was carried out from an interdisciplinary perspective in the social sciences. The Appreciative Inquiry method was applied. Interviews were conducted and questionnaires were applied. The study revealed that students participate little in ecological-environmental activities despite recognizing the importance of the environment and possessing a critical judgment about it, they show knowledge of global and local environmental problems. However, they did not reveal a clear perception about the ecosystemic and complex condition of the world. It is recommended that environmental education at the State University of Paraná occupy a more prominent role in the curriculum and practices that are promoted through projects and actions of conservation, restoration and protection of the environment.
