Abstract

CASTILLO-SOTO, María Auxiliadora. Proposal of didactic strategies for optimal achievement with gifted students. Educación [online]. 2018, vol.42, n.2, pp.794-827. ISSN 2215-2644.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/revedu.v42i2.27131.

This article aims at presenting a proposal of didactic strategies, which promotes optimal achievement with gifted students. The data was collected through an interview done to five volunteer English teachers who work in public and private Costa Rican middle schools. The answers were textually transcribed, compared and classified into three different categories: characteristics of gifted students, strategies to promote the development of this population, and necessary elements to develop a proposal. In the results, the recurrent strategies were acceleration, technology and independent study. Also, characteristics such as, rapidity, security, responsibility, curiosity, attention, autonomy, motivation and participation were the most mentioned. Finally, with the data and information collected, a pedagogical strategy proposal was designed. Its application implies greater attention from teachers and administrators who belong to the schools in which the strategies will be applied. Nevertheless, teachers are encouraged to apply the proposal, and it is highly recommended to make changes depending on the students and the context.

Keywords : exceptionality; pedagogical strategies; gifted students; writing skills; English.
