Abstract

RIVERA-TENORIO, Monzerrath  and  MOYA-ROQUE, Roger. Proposal of visual structural classification of wood by permissible defects for three structural grades in Costa Rica. Kurú [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.36, pp.20-29. ISSN 2215-2504.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18845/rfmk.v15i36.3439.

The system of visual classification of wood was analyzed by admissible structural defects in Costa Rica. It was proposed to include in the INTECO standard 06-07-03: 2011 of Costa Rica a visual evaluation table of the sawn wood by three structural grades, according to admissible defects. Its applicability in Cupressuss lusitanica and Alnus acuminata sawn wood, is shown and the classification is compared with the real values of lumber modulus of elasticity for the different structural grades 1, 2 and 3. It was found that with the addition of the new parameters in the standard a structural classification is obtained close to the real values of lumber modulus of elasticity.

Keywords : Construction enginery; structural wood; visual classification; lumber modulus of elasticity; Costa Rica.
