Abstract

This paper carries out a reflection on how democracy has developed in Latin America from the 1980s. This work pay attention to the transition from dictatorial government systems and processes of election of democratic government, analyzing policy alternatives that have emerged in the twenty-first century, related to renewed social movement opposed to neoliberalism, and those electoral processes with particular characteristics. The paper concludes by emphasizing the main obstacles and dilemmas related to democracy in the region, and making an approach to the particular situation of the left in Latin America.
