Abstract

This scientific research quantifies levels of arsenic in potable water in county Grecia, in the province of Alajuela, using analytical atomic absorption technique coupled with a hydride generator because recent emergence of springs contaminated with this cation in the country and motivated by the lack of updated information for the study area. Obtained as the main result that none of the 26 springs analyzed exceeds the maximum limit allowed by the Costa Rican Decree 32327-S, 0.01 mg/L.

Information about the health implications that means the daily consumption of arsenic and its relationship to the development of chronic arsenic poisoning, which concludes that although the county is an area of risk to be located in the nearby of the Poas Volcano is offered, intake of potable water offered by the Municipality, there is no risk of this health problem.
