Abstract

BONILLA-MOYA, Martín. Chávez and Meza, two latinamerican proposals for trombone. InterSedes [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.29, pp.95-104. ISSN 2215-2458.

This article presents a brief analysis of two concerts for trombone and orchestra written by two distinguished Latin American composers of distinct periods, nationalities and aesthetic approaches. On one hand, we refer to the Concert for Trombone and Orchestra, written by Mexican composer Carlos Chavez between 1977 and 1978, and performed for the first time by Norwegian/American trombonist Per Brevig. On the other hand, we have the Concert for Trombone Quartet and Orchestra, written by Costa Rican composer Vinicio Meza between 1999 and 2000. It was commissioned by Trombones de Costa Rica and performed for the first time with the Costa Rica’s National Symphony Orchestra in October of 2001.
