Abstract
BLANCO-METZLER, Helga and ZUNIGA OROZCO, Andrés. Control of the cycad scale Aulacaspis yasumatsui (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) with different commercial brands of soap in Costa Rica. InterSedes [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.27, pp.114-122. ISSN 2215-2458.
The effect of six commercial brands of soap, Cristalin®, Brasso Antigrasa®, Barra Extra Verde®, Doña Blanca Barra®, Rinso® and Axión Limón® on the Aulacaspis yasumatsui populations was studied. The number of alive crawlers was significantly lower when using Cristalin® than with Rinso® and the control. Significant differences between alive adult females (F = 6.89; P < 0.0001) was found with Barra Extra Verde® and Cristalin® compared to the use of the control and Rinso®. The number of dead adult females differed significantly among treatments when Cristalin® (F = 6.32; P < 0.0001) was used; an average of 1,500 dead females against 1,000 dead individuals of the other treatments was recorded. The soap Cristalin® is considered the best option for A. yasumatsui control.
