Abstract

QUESADA RIVERA, Eugenio. The Circulation of the Catholic Press in Costa Rica during the 1930’s: An Analysis of the Eco Católico. Inter.c.a.mbio [online]. 2021, vol.18, n.1, e45074. ISSN 1659-4940.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/c.a..v18i1.45074.

This article analyses the circulation of the newspaper Eco Católico throughout the decade of 1930. It answers the following research questions: how was the distribution of the issues organised? What was the profile of the newspaper sellers? Where was this newspaper distributed in the country? Why were certain communities or parishes selected to be the point of purchase of the newspaper? It is concluded that, being an important informational tool for the secular clergy, this newspaper was distributed widely in the Central Valley, whereas it faced multiple obstacles in more rural and remote areas.

Keywords : Costa Rica; history; journalism; newspapers; religion.
