Abstract

CRISTTI, Noelí; ARAGON, Santiago; BANEZ, Hernán  and  RELMUCAO, Juan José. Who portrays the University? Analysis of media coverage of the university teachers’ protest in 2018 in Argentina. Comunicación [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.1, pp.4-16. ISSN 1659-3820.

This article makes a comparative analysis of media coverage of the 2018 university teachers’ protest in Argentina in three online newspapers, Clarín, La Nación, and Página 12. Content analysis was utilized to develop a data matrix to evaluate the relevance given to the topic, the sources used, and the degree of credit they are awarded. The results allow us to assert that the issue received little media attention and that sources linked to the academic sphere predominated in the three outlets, at the expense of government sources. Nevertheless, the comparison indicates that, depending on the editorial line of the medium, this prevalence may vary. This study is the result of the research project titled “Media coverage of the strike of university teachers: an analysis from the Agenda Setting Theory” of the “Lomas Science and Technology” program of the National University of Lomas de Zamora.
