Abstract
RHO, María Gabriela. Citizenship and Migrant Struggles. Debates on the Autonomy of Migrations. Reflexiones [online]. 2021, vol.100, n.2, pp.188-207. ISSN 1659-2859. http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/rr.v100i2.43440.
Introduction Migrant struggles put in tension central notions to address the political. Centrally, the category of citizenship has motivated extensive debates within migration studies.
Objective This work aims to describe and systematize the debates that arise around the category of citizenship for the study of migrant struggles, from the gaze of the autonomy of migrations.
Method The studies of referent authors of this perspective of thought that reconstruct and make visible the categories and approaches that are proposed from the gaze of autonomy will be recovered and systematized.
Conclusion Autonomy proposes an alternative critical approach to studies that understand the citizen as a predominant form of political subjectivity and that assume citizenship as the political horizon of migrant struggles. Instead, autonomy proposes to center the analysis of migrations in the framework of capitalism, centrally, in the processes of production of subjectivity that emerge from the relations between capital and living labor. Thus, the gaze shifts from the migrant subjectivities linked to the citizen towards the heterogeneous and fragmentary subjective figures that arise from the current processes of multiplication of labor.
