Abstract

SALAZAR VILLANEA, Mónica  and  CASTRO GOMEZ, María José. Loneliness and Intergenerational Cohabitation: Resignifying Care Concept in a Person´s Life. Reflexiones [online]. 2019, vol.98, n.2, pp.79-93. ISSN 1659-2859.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/rr.v98i2.34152.

This article systematize and analyze some international experiences of intergenerational cohabitation and its incipient impact reports. It recognizes the scarce scientific literature available and the necessity of more methodologically rigorous research and longitudinal vision. Additionally, there is no study about the subjective experience or its impact. The review of intergenerational cohabitation programs from Spain, France, the United States, and Israel clarified in the state of the art, the lack of reports in other regions. The analysis results identified their structure, frequency of contact, rules of interaction, communication or cohabitation, emotional closeness, reciprocal exchange of support, trust, support availability, and emotional openness as constituent variables. This article proposes transcending the vision of intergenerational cohabitation as a short-term goal, in order to promote intergenerational solidarity as a long-term social support and to develop research on this topic.
