Abstract

CABALLERO-GUTIERREZ, Pablo Ubaldo; CARRILLO-RODRIGUEZ, José Cruz; GOMEZ-UGALDE, Rosa María  and  JEREZ-SALAS, Martha Patricia. Presencia de arsénico en pozos y en cultivos de Oaxaca, Mésico. Agron. Mesoam [online]. 2010, vol.21, n.1, pp.177-184. ISSN 2215-3608.

Presence of arsenic in wells and crops in Tlacolula Oaxaca, Mexico. The objective of this work was to determine the presence of Arsenic in well water and crops. Shallow and semi-deep wells were sampled, as well as different crops (tomato, lettuce, beans and corn) belonging to "Flor de Guayabal" landscape in Tlacoluca, Oaxaca, Mexico, during a ten month period (July 2006 to April 2007) to determine the presence of Arsenic. There were two phases: the first one was the diagnosis obtained from the monthly determination of Arsenic in wells, and the second phase was the establishment of the crops and plant sampling for chemical analysis. The analyses of waters (July-April) revealed the presence of Arsenic at levels that surpassed those established by Mexican official norms (0,025 mg/l). In the second phase, no evidence of the presence of Arsenic was found in the edible organs of the tomato, lettuce, carrots, corn and beans.
