Abstract

ROJAS MUNOZ, María Nielssen  and  TREJOS ABARCA, Dylana. Guidelines for Improving the Quality of Life at University of Costa Rica under the Perception of Teachers. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.3, pp.186-203. ISSN 1409-4703.

This article aims to develop a proposal for guidelines and strategies to improve the quality of life related to food and nutrition, work environment and health care of teachers in the Rodrigo Facio Campus of the University of Costa Rica. The development of guidelines and institutional strategies is the result of a research process through a qualitative methodology in 2011 at this institution, in which semi-structured interviews were made to 30 teachers from different faculties and 19 employees from the political, management and health services department. It was noted that the concept of quality of life among professors is associated with age and the status quo of people. In relation to food and nutritional status teachers relate them to quality of life and health status. Regarding health care, they consider the need to expand infrastructure, increase hired personnel and increase the services offered at the Health and Welfare Bureau. Referring to their workplace, they express that the problem of infrastructure is a limiting factor for the optimal performance of their duties. It concludes the importance that the university authorities commit themselves to establish policies to improve the field of study, which according to teachers motivate them to accomplish an excellent performance in the context of higher education.
