Abstract

At present, more than in previous times, the professional exercise of teaching, in all levels, needs competition to do educational research. To fulfill such a requirement the design of programs of specific formation is demanded, which assure the acquisition of knowledge, the appropriation of concepts, and the development of skills that should allow the teachers to accomplish original and innovative studies, from different approaches and perspectives. In this essay, the characteristics and central concepts of the historical and cultural perspective of the educational research are mentioned. Among its principles the following stand out: sociogenetic character of the cognitive activity; appraisement of the causal effective links associated with the origin, the functions and the transformations relative to the socio-educational processes researched; and recognition of the need to join communities of active research, bearing in mind that research is learned investigating with others.
