Abstract

RODRIGUEZ ARRIETA, Marisol  and  BERMUDEZ, Nilda. Las industrias azucarera y petrolera en el Zulia: formas de ocupación territorial (1913-1930). Diálogos rev. electr. hist [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.1, pp.90-122. ISSN 1409-469X.

This article has as fundamental aim explain the different forms of appropriation and occupation of the lands located in the eastern part and to the south of the condition Zulia, placed to the west of Venezuela, where the Creole capitals and foreigners represented in joint-stock companies invested economic resources with the purpose of installing the sugar and petroleum industries that monopolized in a little time extensive territories for the exploration and exploitation of the sugar cane and of the oil. Both processes rode on different historical paces, with unequal social actors but on analogous times. The industrialization of these items needed of wide spaces that the leaders of the corporations acquired and modified in the measure that they were achieving to buy, to penetrate, to negotiate, to contract, to remove and up to expropriating lands, houses, animals, properties in the country, herds, household tasks or agricultural private and public labors, supported on the legislation of the epoch, on his relations with the municipality and with the government of the general Juan Vicente Gómez. The freedom and the support that there enjoyed the partners of both companies led them to transforming the traditional infrastructure and to adapt it to the requirements of the corporations that were consolidated: for the first time in the country, they installed new equipments and machineries handled with modern technologies that it needed of a competent personnel and of abundant workforce. In this work the historical method was in use as scientific tool for the boarding and analysis of the topic
