Abstract

HERNANDEZ-GONZALEZ, Luis Wilfredo; PEREZ-RODRIGUEZ, Roberto; DUMITRESCU, Luminita  and  MONTERO-SARMIENTO, Romilio. Study of influences of cutting variables on superficial integrity and deflections in milling of AISI 1010 steel. Tecnología en Marcha [online]. 2015, vol.28, n.4, pp.26-41. ISSN 0379-3982.

This work presents the experimental study of influence of cutting speed and feed in dry plain milling of AISI 1010 steel, with a cylindrical milling cutter of high speed steel, in microstructure, grain size, hardness, surface roughness, as well as workpiece deflections. The results showed for cutting conditions that, milling did not cause changes in steel microstructure, while grain size and hardness grew up, with relation to original workpiece data. The measured values of surface roughness were acceptable; the feed effect was irregular, though the roughness lowest value for highest cutting speed was recorded. The increase of machining conditions caused an increase of workpiece deflections; while cutting speed produced a higher effect. Finally, the most suitable cutting conditions were chosen, in view of the presented results and technological recommendations.

Keywords : Cutting variables; superficial integrity; deflections; milling; AISI 1010 steel.
