VASQUEZ, Sara  and  PIMIENTO, Catalina. Sharks and Rays from the Tonosi Formation (Eocene of Panamá). Rev. Geol. Amér. Central [online]. 2014, n.51, pp.165-169. ISSN 0256-7024.

In this study we identify and describe fossil remains of sharks and rays from the Eocene Tonosi Formation of Panama. This work includes the first report of Odontaspis sp. and †Cretolamna appendiculata for the country, and additional records of Carcharnifomes and Aetobatus sp. These finds represent the oldest chondrichthyan report from Panama, contributing to the knowledge of the marine fauna that existed before the formation of the Isthmus of Panama.

Keywords : Neotropics; Paleogene; ray teeth; shark teeth; vertebral centra.
