Abstract
MORALES-CORDERO, Ana Isabe and MARIN-ROJAS, Rafael Ange. Sistema Kidd: distribución de los fenotipos y genotipos en la población de Costa Rica. Rev. costarric. cienc. méd [online]. 1997, vol.18, n.1, pp.59-62. ISSN 0253-2948.
Eight hundred and seventy two (872) blood samples from different parts of Costa Rica were tested at the Forensic Science Laboratory (OIJ), Costa Rica, to establish Kidd system phenotype and genotype distribution within the country. The study found 27.4% Jk (a+b-), 52.6% Jk (a+b+) amd 20.0% JK (a-b+), with an allelic distribution of 0.537 for Jka and 0.463 for Jkb. Sample size was determined with the formula n= z2 pq/d2 and allelic frequency by the gene counting method. Based on the Chi square method value with 2 degrees of freedom and a 99% confidence interva, there was no significant deviation (p below 0.01) on the expected values resulting from the Hardy Weinberg equilibrium assumptions.
