Resumen
SOJO-MORA, Blanca Luz y JIMENEZ-ROJAS, Luis Manuel. Empowerment of women through adventure racing in five Latin American countries during 2024. Espiga [online]. 2025, vol.24, n.50, pp.220-247. ISSN 2215-454X. http://dx.doi.org/10.22458/re.v24i50.6299.
The main objective of this article is to identify the influence of adventure races on women’s empowerment. This qualitative study used structured interviews to collect data. The sample consisted of 16 female adventure-race athletes from five Latin American countries. The information was analyzed using grounded theory with the constant comparative method. Among the main findings, it was observed that adventure races enhance the intrapersonal, interactional, and behavioral components of personal empowerment. In addition, this sport allows athletes to develop skills and values that are transferred to family and work contexts. Another relevant finding is the opportunity this sport offers to break gender stereotypes such as that of the «weak woman».
