Abstract

CARRERA-UMANA, Randall. The Historical Reality in Ignacio Ellacuría. Espiga [online]. 2025, vol.24, n.49, pp.162-188. ISSN 2215-454X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22458/re.v24i49.5825.

The main objective of this study is to analyze, from a philosophical perspective, the category of historical reality as proposed by Ignacio Ellacuría. Methodologically, a primary source investigation has been chosen from a hermeneutic perspective that allows for its interpretation and evaluation. The approach taken leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to investigate the Zubirian foundations of Ellacuría’s work to understand his philosophical intentions. Therefore, the study begins with an examination of certain categories rooted in Zubiri’s thought, whose clarification is necessary for a full understanding of what historical reality means in Ellacuría’s philosophy. Then, an analysis of some key characteristics of historical reality is carried out to present a conceptual clarification. This research demonstrates that historical reality is, among other aspects, a transcendental openness.

Keywords : Metaphysics; philosophy; philosophy of history.
