PENA-VARGAS, Vilma. Transformations of Women, Communities and the University, from a Learning Experience with Solar Technology. Espiga [online]. 2022, vol.21, n.43, pp.234-254. ISSN 2215-454X. http://dx.doi.org/10.22458/re.v21i43.4296.
The article communicates the history of the UNED Women of Light project, through a personal reflection and describes how the UNED is part of a story that began with three women from the original inhabitants who were granted scholarships to attend the Barefoot University, a university in Tilonia, India. In the process, the UNED arrives as the first university to Alto Carona, a community located in the mountains of the Conte-Burica territory, in the southern part of the country, near the border with Panama. The project aims to illuminate, with solar panels, more than 200 families living in the Conte-Burica territory, inhabited by people of Ngäbe or Ngöbe ethnic and cultural tradition. In the process, their homes are lit, their devices have energy, but other processes also make it possible to illuminate women, communities and the university. In conclusion, the processes of learning and exchange of knowledge enlighten us, are urgent, necessary and the legitimate way for social transformation.
