The study of what is known today as linguistic landscape has focused, since the contributions that gave rise to that study at the end of the last century, on interlingual coexistence. In the evolution of research on linguistic landscape, there has been also a clear preference for investigations referring to urban space. This article maintains the first focus of interest and also deals with an urban space, but tries at the same time to contribute to the extension of systematic research of the linguistic landscape to rural space. With this purpose, and on the base of data collected in the Argentine city of Bahía Blanca and its surrounding rural area, this article opens up specific research on the rural linguistic landscape in Argentina and develops a comparison, in a regional scale, between the urban and rural linguistic landscape.
