Abstract

ARIAS CORRALES, Ileana. Linguistic Variation and french characteristics resulting from the analysis of a corpus of Costa Rican manuals. Rev. filol. linguíst. Univ. Costa Rica [online]. 2024, vol.50, n.1, pp.37-62. ISSN 2215-2628.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/rfl.v50i1.57608.

In this documentary and descriptive sociolinguistic study, the presence of diatopic, diastratic, diaphasic and acquisitional variation is analyzed in a corpus of 23 French textbooks published between 2006 and 2018, aimed at learners of the third cycle of education basic general, prepared and published in Costa Rica. The objective of this study was to determine if the variation was present in the corpus of manuals. As a result of this analysis, a series of reference French characteristics are described, among which are a language model with a homogeneous grammar, based on what is written, in which the teaching of grammatical and lexical content prevails, and the French culture is the benchmark. In conclusion the diaphasic variation is the one that is most explicitly present in the corpus of manuals. The reference French characteristics presented may constitute a basis for future discussions on this language teaching models in Costa Rica.
