NARANJO CRUZ, Andrea; URQUIJO TORRES, Pedro S. y ALVARADO SIZZO, Ilia. Landscape representation in Lake Pátzcuaro, Mexico: between costumbrismo and cosmopolitanism (late 19th century to mid-20th century). Rev. Geog. Amer. Central [online]. 2026, n.77, pp.157-186. In this paper we examine the imaginaries about the landscape and the riverside towns of Lake Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Mexico, based on the analysis of visual spatial representation. We are interested in understanding the construction of a collective discourse around the tourist activity that has moved from identity representations which exalt naturalism and landscape, at the beginning of the 20th century, to a visual discourse that alludes to a cosmopolitan region, open to the world, from the last decades of the last century to the present. We consider that the study of landscape representativeness, as idealized forms of multiple identities and territorialities, allow an understanding of local discourses regarding rootedness and are a sample of the shape, inducted or not, of defining group memory in the relations of alterity from the inside to the outside.
