BROWN DONALDSON, Joybeth  y  DOUGLAS CLAYTON, Shashira. Sexual harassment at the University of Costa Rica: an intersectional reading. Reflexiones [online]. 2024, vol.103, n.2, pp.185-205. ISSN 1659-2859.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/rr.v103i1.52722.

Introduction: The convergence between gender and race demands prevention and sanction mechanisms that consider the intersectional violence experienced by Afro-descendent women at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) when they suffer sexual harassment, in order to avoid the psychosocial effects that this violence causes. Objective: To establish intersectionality as the central axis of analysis in the development of effective tools for the prevention and the sanction of sexual harassment, considering the confluence of gender and race, in order to avoid re-victimization in Afro-descendent students at the UCR. Method: From a qualitative approach, three research methods were used -analysis, comparative and systematic- in order to establish the relationships and implications of intersectionality in the development of tools to prevent and sanction sexual harassment in Afro-university women. For this purpose, documentary reviews were carried out based on secondary sources (books, journal articles, newspapers, and regulations) 3 and primary sources (semi-structured surveys) 4. Results: The documentary review showed that 25 secondary sources were useful to explain the sections of this case, and the semi-structured surveys showed that 91.67% of the interviewees indicated the necessity of to simplify the reporting process in order to avoid revictimization. Conclusions: The intersectional perspective allows addressing situations of sexual harassment from the complexity and particularity of Afro-descendant women. Therefore, we conclude that it is essential to analyze this context.
