Resumen

LOPEZ-MENDEZ, Alicia et al. Localización de zonas aptas para la agricultura protegida en Baja California sur, México. Agron. Mesoam [online]. 2013, vol.24, n.2, pp.393-400. ISSN 2215-3608.

Location of suitable zones for protected agriculture in Baja California Sur, Mexico. This study was conducted to define potential sites to establish protected agriculture in Baja California Sur, Mexico, taking into account weather and soil variables. A soil sampling was conducted in 51 sites from October to November 2010; besides, the available amount of N, P and K, pH and Electrical Conductivity (EC) were analyzed. Results showed a low concentration of N, high content of P, and a variant concentration for K. Moreover, observed pH was alkaline and EC varied from moderate to low level. Based on the results, it can be stated that Baja California Sur has different weather and soils in each of its counties. As a consequence, there are considerable variations in protected agriculture development. The higher surface in Baja California Sur, suitable for protected agriculture, measured in May 2010, was quantified in 6,811,778 ha. Most of the year is optimal to cultivate under protected agriculture approach, without the need for additional mechanisms for weather control. However, during the summer conditions are suboptimal and it is necessary to introduce means to decrease high temperatures.
