BUSTOS-VIVIESCAS, Brian Johan; LOZANO-ZAPATA, Rafael Enrique  y  CUESTAS, Carlos Alberto Romero. Analysis of Metabolic Equivalents and Energy Expenditure in a High-Intensity Functional Training Session in Physically Active Subjects. Introduction:

Research on Metabolic Equivalents (ME) and Energy Expenditure (EE) in High-Intensity Functional Training (HIFT) sessions has shown positive effects in different populations.

Objective:

To analyze ME and GE in a HIFT in Physically Active (PA) subjects.

Methodology:

descriptive, quantitative approach, convenience sample 14 men (age 23,21±2,26 years; body mass 70,52±10,61 kg; height 1,75±0,06 m) 7 women (age 23,60±1,67 years; body mass 57,76±10,38 kg; height 1,58±0,06 m) PA. The WOD Karen was performed (150 medicine ball throws in the shortest time possible) with heart rate recording. ME was determined with maximum heart rate (HRmax) data with H7 heart rate monitors and maximum oxygen consumption obtained in a field test; the GE was estimated with a predictive equation. Statistical analysis with the PSPP statistical package (95 % confidence and a p-value of 0,05).

Results:

ME was similar (men 12,96 ± 1,18 METS vs. women 12,17 ± 0,93 METS), and GE was higher in men (73,92±7,54 kJ.min-1 vs. 51,89±3,15 kJ.min-1).

Conclusion:

An HIFT session presents submaximal to maximal values in FA subjects; therefore, these highintensity efforts in short-duration sessions require great.

Palabras clave : Exercise; metabolic equivalent; oxygen consumption.
