Abstract

CASTILLO CHAVES, Ana Gabriela et al. Recommendations for the management and treatment of chronic coronary syndrome. Rev. costarric. cardiol [online]. 2025, vol.27, suppl.1, pp.5-25. ISSN 1409-4142.  http://dx.doi.org/10.63885/rcc.v27s1.002.

Introduction and objectives:

Recently published chronic coronary syndrome guidelines recognize that stable angina can no longer be treated as a pathological condition on its own, and instead multiple clinical scenarios in which heterogeneous cardiac ischemic pathology manifests must be analyzed. Multiple therapeutic approaches exist to address the conditions of this heterogeneous group of patients.

Methods:

A group of cardiologists from various Central American societies came together to review the latest available evidence and consolidate, in a single document, the main guidelines and positions, taking into account the specific conditions of the health systems in the Central American region.

Results:

The analysis of the international guidelines reviewed allowed identifying the appropriate recommendations to be applied in the Central American region in accordance with the capacity and infrastructure of their health systems. The recommendations support physicians in decision-making in diagnosis, treatment, and cardiac rehabilitation for patients with chronic coronary syndromes, which can be implemented even in hospitals with limited resources.

Conclusions:

This document seeks to bring together in the clearest and most precise way the main world recommendations regarding chronic coronary syndromes, but under a Central American premise. The contribution of the cardiological societies of the region is to prioritize those guidelines that bring us closer to an increasingly accurate diagnosis and therapy, but also to taking into account the economic, human, and scientific limitations.
