Abstract

GOMEZ-PEREZ, Luis E.  and  CARBOT-CHANONA, Gerardo. Note about an inmature specimen gomphotherium sp. From late miocene of Chiapas, Mexico. Rev. Geol. Amér. Central [online]. 2018, n.58, pp.189-202. ISSN 0256-7024.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/rgac.v58i0.32851.

It is described a premolar and an upper incisor fragment belonging to longirostrine gomphothere discovered in the Puente Ixcan locality (Late Miocene), Maravilla Tenejapa municipality, at the southern state of Chiapas, Mexico. Based on the morphology, measures and geographic range, we assigned the specimen to Gomphotherium genus. This is the southernmost record of Gomphotherium in Mexico, and because of the proximity to Central America contributes to the knowledge of the paleobiogeographical distribution of longirostrine gomphotheres in this region.

Keywords : Mammalia; Proboscidea; Ghomphoteriidae; longirrostrine; deciduous dentition; México.
