Bibliotecas (ISSN DIGITAL 1659-3286)
Continuous
publication is when an article is published at the moment it is ready
to be included in the journal; that is, it is published individually
immediately after being approved. According to Quirós (2018), this
consists of a type of publication in which “the articles are placed one
by one on the journal's page, once they have completed the peer review
process, the original correction process, philological correction,
translation and layout”.
Thus, this type of publication implies the disappearance of the
periodicity of the journal issues, leaving only the volumes, where
depending on how the journal establishes it, it will be the only moment
in which the articles will be grouped continuously, as they were
published. For example, if the volumes of the journal in question are
annual, those articles published continuously during that year will be
those that make up that volume.
Focus and Scope
Bibliotecas
is an academic journal of the School of Library Science, Documentation
and Information of the National University (Costa Rica). Its main
objective is the dissemination of scientific knowledge resulting from
research carried out by professionals in library science,
documentation, information and related topics. The journal is published
semiannually in the following periods: January - June and July -
December, with the methodology of continuous publication (articles are
received throughout the year). The journal is aimed at information
professionals, teachers, practicing librarians and students in training.
This publication disseminates original works on experiences,
innovations, opinions, technical advances and trends, both in theory
and practice, of information science professionals (library science,
documentation, computing, communication, etc.). Its purpose is to serve
as an instrument of dissemination, a forum for discussion, a means of
supporting professional improvement and ongoing education, a tool for
exchanging experiences and a window to knowledge of the changes that
occur in the professional environment.
Subject areas
Original
works in the areas covered by the Journal will be considered: Technical
reports, research results, presentations at meetings, courses,
seminars, workshops, etc., teaching materials, thesis adaptations,
consultancy reports, diagnostic studies, literature reviews on topics
of current interest and other material that represents a contribution
to achieving the objectives of UNA's library and information activities.
Editorial process of articles
Double-blind peer review
Policies
1. All contributions received (scientific articles, essays, technical
reports, among others) will be evaluated, in the first instance, by the
editor to verify compliance with the editorial standards of the journal
(content, structuring, citation, presentation of charts, tables,
graphs, figures, among others). The above does not mean that their
publication is mandatory.
2. If the work satisfies the first assessment, the peer review is
carried out. This process consists of the selection, assignment and
rigorous evaluation of two external specialists, who criticize the text
according to various criteria established by the journal.
3. The double-blind system will be used; that is, the name of the author(s) and the external evaluators are omitted.
4. The average time of arbitration is 15 days from the submission of the article to the peers.
5. The evaluations of the external specialists are sent to the editor
of the journal, who consolidates the observations and suggestions to be
delivered to the author(s) of the work. 30 days are assigned for the
improvement of the article.
The
abbreviation for its title is Bibliotecas, which should be used in
bibliographies, footnotes, legends and bibliographical references.
