Focus and Scope

Cuadernos de Antropología aims to disseminate knowledge and facilitate academic discussion in the fields of Social Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, Ethnohistory, Linguistic Anthropology, Archaeology, and related areas, with a focus on Central America, southern Mexico, the Caribbean islands, and northwestern Colombia. The journal is addressed to the academic and professional communities, as well as to any individual—whether local or international—interested in the subject matter.

Peer Review Process

By submitting a document for evaluation, authors agree to abide by the editorial guidelines of *Cuadernos de Antropología*, which remain in effect throughout the entire processing period. All documents received for evaluation will undergo the following process:

The Editorial Board will verify whether the received manuscript meets the minimum requirements regarding formatting and its contribution to the field of anthropology—based on the journal's definition—in order to initiate the editorial process.

If the document is initially approved, it will proceed to a second, anonymous review by at least two academic peers external to the publishing institution, selected jointly by the Editorial Board and the International Scientific Committee. The identities of both the authors and the reviewing academic peers will remain unknown to one another (double-blind review).

This academic peer review may yield three possible outcomes: i) the manuscript is not recommended for publication; ii) the manuscript is recommended for publication; or iii) the manuscript is recommended for publication contingent upon the author making modifications to address points raised by the reviewers and the journal's editors. In the latter case, the document will be returned to the authors with suggested observations for their consideration and incorporation, after which the corrected manuscript must be resubmitted.

The average evaluation period ranges from 3 to 5 months, spanning the time from the document's receipt to the Editorial Committee's final decision.

Open Access Policy

The journal provides free, immediate, and open access to its content, based on the principle of making research freely available to the public and fostering greater knowledge exchange. All published articles are licensed under the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 DEED (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 DEED) license, which allows for sharing—copying and redistributing the material in any medium or format—and adapting—remixing, transforming, and building upon the material.

Consequently, authors are free to publish any version of their work—including pre-publication drafts and updated versions—in any repository or on any website. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, and search for articles in the journal without seeking prior authorization from the editor or author, provided the information is used for educational and non-commercial purposes. Its abbreviated title is Cuad. Antrop.  and it should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references and bibliographic strips.
