El propósito de la investigación fue evaluar la heterogeneidad de los paisajes físico-geográficos del municipio San Mateo Río Hondo en Oaxaca. Se calcularon dos índices de complejidad, uno de riqueza y tres de diversidad con base en las unidades de paisajes físico-geográficos del municipio a escala 1:50 000. Los resultados evidencian una estrecha relación estadística y espacial entre la diversidad y la complejidad. Las categorías de muy alta y alta correlación comprenden 95.7 % y están representadas por complejos de laderas y barrancos en montañas de génesis tectónico estructural. En cuanto a la riqueza y la diversidad máxima, se mostró una relación espacial perfecta dominada por las unidades de clase muy alta, las cuales abarcan cerca de 80 % del área total. Lo anterior denota la alta potencialidad del municipio de San Mateo Río Hondo para la conservación de la geodiversidad y el turismo ecológico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The importance of geoecological heterogeneity analyses to support ecotourism assessments and ecosystem conservation is due to its high correlation with biodiversity; however, the state of Oaxaca in Mexico lacks geoecological inventories and assessments of its geographical diversity, despite being a region with notable biological richness. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the heterogeneity of the physical-geographic landscapes of the San Mateo Río Hondo municipality in Oaxaca. Two complexity indices were calculated, one of richness and three of diversity based on the physical-geographic landscape units of the municipality at a scale of 1:50 000. The results show a close statistical and spatial relationship between diversity and complexity. The very high and high correlation categories comprise 95.7 % and are represented by complexes of slopes and ravines in mountains of tectonic-structural genesis. A perfect spatial relationship regarding richness and maximum diversity was shown, dominated by very high class units, which cover close to 80 % of the total area. The above denotes the high potential of the San Mateo Río Hondo municipality for the conservation of geodiversity and ecological tourism.]]></p></abstract>

O objetivo da pesquisa foi avaliar a heterogeneidade das paisagens físico-geográficas do município de San Mateo Río Hondo, em Oaxaca. Foram calculados dois índices de complexidade, um de riqueza e três de diversidade com base nas unidades físico-geográficas da paisagem do município na escala 1:50 000. Os resultados mostram uma estreita relação estatística e espacial entre diversidade e complexidade. As categorias de correlação muito alta e alta compreendem 95,7 % e são representadas por complexos de encostas e vales em montanhas de gênese tectônico-estrutural. Quanto à riqueza e diversidade máxima, mostrou-se uma relação espacial perfeita, dominada por unidades de classe muito alta, que cobrem cerca de 80 % da área total.
