Al utilizar datos satelitales MODIS (2000-2024) y métricas de paisaje, se observó un aumento del 62.96 % en incendios en la última década, especialmente en áreas fragmentadas con baja cobertura forestal y alta densidad de borde. El tamaño de los fragmentos de bosque, con alta probabilidad de ignición antropogénica, estimado fue de 6.26 ha. La zona norte del ACT presentó mayor probabilidad de incendios y fragmentación que la sur. Los resultados son cruciales para desarrollar estrategias de prevención y manejo de incendios, con lo cual se promueve la resiliencia comunitaria frente al cambio climático.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This study analyzes the relationship between forest fires and landscape fragmentation in the Tempisque Conservation Area (ACT) and the Chorotega Biological Corridor (CBCh), Costa Rica. Using MODIS satellite data (2000-2024) and landscape metrics, a 62.96% increase in wildfires was observed in the last decade, especially in fragmented areas with low forest cover and high edge density. The estimated size of forest fragments with a high probability of anthropogenic ignition was 6.26 ha. The northern zone of the ACT showed a higher probability of fires and fragmentation than the southern zone. The results are crucial for developing fire prevention and management strategies, promoting community resilience to climate change.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo Este estudo analisa a relação entre incêndios florestais e fragmentação da paisagem na Área de Conservação de Tempisque (ACT) e no Corredor Biológico de Chorotega (CBCh), Costa Rica. Usando dados do satélite MODIS (2000-2024) e métricas de paisagem, um aumento de 62,96% nos incêndios foi observado na última década, especialmente em áreas fragmentadas com baixa cobertura florestal e alta densidade de bordas. O tamanho dos fragmentos florestais, com alta probabilidade de ignição antrópica, foi estimado em 6,26 ha. A parte norte do Território da Capital Australiana era mais propensa a sofrer incêndios e fragmentação do que a parte sul. Os resultados são cruciais para o desenvolvimento de estratégias de prevenção e gestão de incêndios, promovendo assim a resiliência da comunidade às mudanças climáticas.]]></p></abstract>
