Para la expansión de esta planta, es necesaria gran cantidad de semillas de calidad, y para producirlas se deben tener en cuenta, entre otros factores, la densidad de siembra y las variedades a emplear. El objetivo fue determinar el efecto de la distancia de siembra en el rendimiento de semillas de cuatro variedades de moringa. El estudio se realizó en la Estación Experimental de Pastos y Forrajes (EEPF), del Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias (IIA) &#8220;Jorge Dimitrov&#8221;, en Bayamo, provincia Granma, Cuba, desde 2012 hasta 2015. Se evaluaron cuatro variedades: Plain, Nicaragua, Supergenius y Criolla, en un suelo Fluvisol del Valle del Cauto. Se establecieron doce tratamientos que combinaron la variedad con las distancias de siembra: 3x1, 3x2 y 3x3 metros. Se midieron las variables grosor del tallo, ramas por planta, cantidad de frutos por planta, largo de frutos, número de semillas y rendimiento de semillas por planta y por hectárea. No hubo interacción significativa entre variedad y distancia de siembra para las variables estudiadas. La mejor respuesta en los componentes del rendimiento se obtuvo en las distancias 3x2 y 3x3 m; sin embargo, los mayores rendimientos por hectárea se alcanzaron en las distancias 3x1 m y 3x2 m. El factor variedad mostró ser significativo (p&#8804;0,05) sobre el grosor del tallo, longitud de los frutos y número de semillas por frutos. Para la distancia de siembra las variables significativas (p&#8804;0,05) fueron: grosor del tallo, ramas y frutos por planta y rendimiento por planta y por hectárea.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Moringa oleifera has shown innumerable benefits as animal feed. For the expansion of this plant, a large amount of quality seeds is necessary and, to produce them, sowing density and the cultivars used must be considered, among other factors. The objective of this work was to determine the effect of sowing distance on seed yield of four moringa cultivars. The study was carried out at the Experimental Pasture and Forage Station Pastures and Forages (EEPF, in Spanish) of the Institute of Agricultural Research(IIA, in Spanish) &#8220;Jorge Dimitrov&#8221; in Bayamo, Granma, Cuba. Four cultivars: Plain, Nicaragua, Supergenius, and Criolla, were evaluated on a Fluvisol soil in Cauto Valley. Twelve treatments, combining cultivar and sowing distance: 3x1, 3x2, and 3x3 m, were applied. The variables stem thickness, branches per plant,fruits per plant, fruit length, seeds per plant, and seed yield per plant and per hectare were measured. There was not a significant interaction between cultivar and sowing distance for the studied variables. The best response of yield components was obtained from plants spaced at 3x2 and 3x3 m; however, the highest yield per hectare were reached from plants spaced at 3x1 and 3x2 m. Cultivarr was significant (p&#8804;0.05) on stem thickness, fruit length, and seeds per fruit. For sowing distance, the significant variables (p&#8804;0.05) were: stem thickness, branches and fruits per plant as well as yield per plant and per hectare.]]></p></abstract>
