El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el efecto del portainjerto comercial &#8220;Terrano&#8221; sobre la calidad y la acumulación de elementos orgánicos en la hoja, pedúnculo y pulpa de pimiento morrón (Capsicum annuum L.). El trabajo se estableció en un sistema de malla sombra en Delicias, Chihuahua, México, durante el ciclo de producción 2012, con un diseño experimental factorial 2x2, en un diseño de bloques completos al azar, en donde el factor a) fue la variedad: Fascinato y Janette, mientras que, el factor b) fue el uso del portainjerto &#8220;Terrano&#8221; (con y sin injerto), dando cuatro tratamientos: Fascinato/Terrano, Fascinato/sin injertar, Janette/Terrano y Janette/sin Injertar. Se evaluó la acumulación de elementos orgánicos: nitrógeno (N), azufre (S), hidrógeno (H), carbono (C), proteínas, así como, la calidad del pimiento morrón (firmeza, color y peso). Se presentaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas por efecto del portainjerto sobre las variedades estudiadas, este incrementó la acumulación de elementos orgánicos: N, S, y proteína en hoja y pulpa de la variedad Janette, además, incrementó el peso del fruto. El uso del portainjerto &#8220;Terrano&#8221; podría ser una técnica viable para mejorar la acumulación de elementos orgánicos y calidad del pimiento morrón en las variedades Fascinato y Janette.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Bell pepper is very susceptible to Phytophthora capsici, therefore the use of rootstocks can be useful to reduce the incidence of root diseases and to increase and improve fruit quality and its chemical composition. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of commercial rootstock &#8220;Terrano&#8221; on the quality and the accumulation of organic elements in the leaf, peduncle, and pulp of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). The work was carried out in a mesh shade system in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico during the production cycle of 2012, with an experimental 2x2 factorial design in a randomized complete block design where the a) factor was the cultivar: Fascinato and Janette, while factor b) was the use of rootstock &#8220;Terrano&#8221; (grafted and ungrafted), giving four treatments: Fascinato/Terrano, Fascinato/ungrafted, Janette/Terrano, and Janette/ungrafted. The accumulation of organic elements: nitrogen (N), sulfur (S), hydrogen (H), carbon (C), proteins, as well as the quality of bell pepper (firmness, color, and weight) were evaluated. The results indicate that there were statistically significant differences due to the effect of the rootstock on the studied cultivars (Fascinato and Janette), where the rootstock &#8220;Terrano&#8221; increased the accumulation of organic elements: N, S, and protein in leaf and pulp of the cultivar Janette; in addition, the weight of the fruit increased. The use of commercial rootstock &#8220;Terrano&#8221; could be a viable technique to improve the accumulation of organic elements as well as the quality of bell pepper in cultivars Fascinato and Janette.]]></p></abstract>
