Desde su etapa inicial, el cultivo de banano requiere de insumos de buena calidad para su desarrollo y crecimiento. El uso de sustratos de buena calidad, como el lombricompost, no solo previene la diseminación de enfermedades de suelo, sino también fomenta un buen desarrollo, lo que podría ayudar a disminuir costos de producción. Objetivo. Evaluar el efecto del lombricompost sobre el crecimiento y desarrollo de plantas de banano cv. Gros Michel (Musa AAA) en etapa de vivero. Materiales y métodos. En la Sede del Atlántico de la Universidad de Costa Rica, ubicada en Turrialba, Costa Rica, entre julio y setiembre de 2022, se prepararon sustratos con dos tipos de lombricompost (anticipado (A) y postergado (P)) en dosis de 0 %, 10 %, 25 % y 30 %; luego, se sembraron plantas in vitro de banano Gros Michel (Musa AAA) en fase IV. Cada dos semanas se evaluaron la altura de planta, el área foliar, el número de hojas, la emisión foliar y el diámetro de pseudotallo. Al inicio y al final del ensayo, se analizaron el diámetro del cormo y la biomasa fresca y seca. Resultados. El lombricompost resultó beneficioso en la menor dosis probada (10 % A y 10 % P), y en ausencia de este (0 %), las plantas presentaron el menor desarrollo. En las dosis más altas (30 % P), se observó un efecto fitotóxico. Conclusiones. El lombricompost estimuló el crecimiento de las plantas de banano con base en las variables fisiológicas evaluadas con respecto al tratamiento sin lombricompost.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction.  From its initial stage, banana cultivation requires high-quality inputs for development and growth. The use of high-quality substrates, such as vermicompost, not only prevents the spread of soil diseases, but also promotes better development, which could help reduce production costs. Objective. To evaluate the effect of vermicompost on the growth and development of banana plants cv. Gros Michel (Musa AAA) in nursery stage. Materials and methods. At the Atlantic Campus of the Universidad de Costa Rica, located in Turrialba, Costa Rica, between July and September 2022, substrates were prepared with two types of vermicompost (anticipated (A) and delayed (P)) in doses of 0 %, 10 %, 25 % and 30 %. In vitro plants of Gros Michel banana (Musa AAA) in IV phase were then planted. Plant height, leaf area, number of leaves, leaf emission and pseudostem diameter were evaluated every two weeks. Corm diameter, fresh and dry biomass were analyzed at the beginning and end of the trial. Results. Vermicompost was beneficial at the lowest dose tested (10 % A and 10 % P). In the absence of vermicompost (0 %), plants showed the lowest development, while at the highest doses (30 % P), a phytotoxic effect was observed. Conclusion. Vermicompost stimulated banana plant growth based on the physiological variables evaluated compared to the treatment without vermicompost.]]></p></abstract>
