Los sujetos fueron dos grupos de nadadores (n=20, n=18). Los resultados para la fase de entrenamiento indicaron que no existió una relación entre los cambios en el volumen de entrenamiento y los cambios en el estado anímico. Durante la fase de competencia se encontró que entre los nadadores de alto nivel hubo cambios en los parámetros psicológicos que evidenciaron una "puesta en punta emocional", patrón que no se dio en los nadadores de menor nivel competitivo. Se concluye que la preparación psicológica es un elemento fundamental para el rendimiento óptimo en deportistas de élite.]]></p></abstract>

<body><![CDATA[<p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">La nataci&oacute;n es uno de los deportes competitivos de m&aacute;s r&aacute;pida evoluci&oacute;n. Uno de los factores que ha hecho que se d&eacute; ese desarrollo y evoluci&oacute;n, es el intercambio de metodolog&iacute;a y de conocimientos cient&iacute;ficos y tecnol&oacute;gicos (Counsilman, 1980). Otro factor ha sido la inclusi&oacute;n de profesionales de diferentes &aacute;reas cient&iacute;ficas en el proceso de la preparaci&oacute;n y el entrenamiento de los nadadores, como lo son: m&eacute;dicos, dietistas, fisi&oacute;logos, preparadores f&iacute;sicos, biomec&aacute;nicos, especialistas en halterofilia y m&aacute;s recientemente los psic&oacute;logos (Mart&iacute;nez, 1984; Navarro y otros, 1990). Actualmente, en el deporte competitivo, se le est&aacute; dando una mayor importancia a la preparaci&oacute;n psicol&oacute;gica del atleta, pues se sabe que el resultado final no depende solamente de la preparaci&oacute;n f&iacute;sica, t&eacute;cnica y t&aacute;ctica, sino que en gran medida depende del entrenamiento mental que se le haya dado al atleta, para enfrentar toda la presi&oacute;n que genera una competencia importante (Nideffer, 1985; Ryan, 1982). Adem&aacute;s la preparaci&oacute;n psicol&oacute;gica es importante para soportar las altas cargas de entrenamiento que se utilizan en el deporte de alto rendimiento.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Se podr&iacute;a decir que la condici&oacute;n f&iacute;sica, el dominio t&eacute;cnico, el control t&aacute;ctico y los aspectos psicol&oacute;gicos, son importantes para alcanzar alto rendimiento (Algarra y otros, 1990).</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">La actividad deportiva se caracteriza porque genera intensos estados emocionales, los cuales ejercen influencia positiva o negativa en los procesos org&aacute;nicos y en la conducta humana. De acuerdo con Rudik (1982) algunas emociones relacionadas con la actividad deportiva son: a) Estados especiales de euforia producidos por la elevaci&oacute;n de la actividad muscular y agotamiento f&iacute;sico y mental, as&iacute; como desgano, en los casos de sobreentrenamiento. b) Un elevado nivel de perfeccionamiento en la realizaci&oacute;n de ejercicios f&iacute;sicos t&eacute;cnicamente complicados, refleja una gran capacidad de trabajo del organismo; es agradable sentirse fuerte, &aacute;gil y con capacidad para realizar determinado ejercicio o actividad que no todos pueden ejecutar. Por el contrario, las lesiones o los fallos al realizar ejercicios dif&iacute;ciles durante los entrenamientos, pueden generar estados emocionales negativos de inseguridad, temor o inhibici&oacute;n. c) Las emociones que se desarrollan en la lucha deportiva tienen siempre un car&aacute;cter muy tenso y se reflejan en los grandes esfuerzos para triunfar o para lograr mejores marcas y que por su intensidad, supere los estados de &aacute;nimo de la actividad cotidiana.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Por los a&ntilde;os setenta, William Morgan, comenz&oacute; a utilizar, en un grupo de atletas de alto rendimiento, una prueba psicol&oacute;gica estandarizada para medir los perfiles de estados de &aacute;nimo; a esta prueba se le conoce con el nombre de POMS (Profile of mood states). Esta prueba eval&uacute;a seis escalas psicol&oacute;gicas, cinco de ellas son negativas; estas son: TENSION, DEPRESION, HOSTILIDAD, FATIGA Y CONFUSION. La escala positiva de esta prueba es el VIGOR. (Murphy y otros. 1991).</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">La prueba POMS se ha utilizado en &aacute;reas muy variadas, pero en cuanto al &aacute;rea del ejercicio f&iacute;sico se ha encontrado que:</font></font>     <br> &nbsp; </p> <ul>   <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">1-&nbsp;&nbsp; El ejercicio fuerte provoca trastornos en el estado de &aacute;nimo, as&iacute; como en el nivel de rendimiento. (Chan y Grosman, 1981; Hassman y Blomstrand, 1991; Horswill y otros, 1990; Horvat, French, Henschen, 1986; Kraemer y otros, 1990; Koutedakis, Budgett, Faulman, 1990; Morgan, 1972; Morgan, 1985; O&#8217;conor y otros, 1989; Prusacz, Dishman y Cureton, 1992; Raglin y otros, 1990; Raglin, Morgan, Luchsinger, 1990; Raglin, Morgan, O&#8217;conor, 1991; Tharp y Barnes. 1990; Williams, Krahenbuhl, Morgan, 1991).</font></font>     </ul> <ul>   <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">2-&nbsp;&nbsp; Los estados emocionales de la lucha deportiva durante las competencias, tienen un car&aacute;cter muy tenso y se reflejan en los grandes esfuerzos para triunfar o mejorar marcas, y por su intensidad, superan los estados de &aacute;nimo de la actividad cotidiana. (Rudik 1982).</font></font>     </ul> <ul>   <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">3-&nbsp;&nbsp; Cuando el ejercicio es de moderada o baja intensidad, no suelen ocurrir cambios considerables en el estado de &aacute;nimo. (Hassman y Blomstrand, 1991; Cramer, Nieman y Lee, 1991).</font></font>     </ul> <ul>   <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">4-&nbsp;&nbsp; Una salud mental positiva incide directamente en el &eacute;xito deportivo. (Morgan, 1985; Williams, Krahenbuhl, Morgan, 1991; Horvat, French, Henschen, 1986).</font></font>     </ul> <ul>   <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">5-&nbsp;&nbsp; La variabilidad que pueda ocurrir en los estados de &aacute;nimo, no se pueden atribuir exclusivamente a las cargas altas en el entrenamiento, ya que existen otros factores como problemas familiares, personales, de estudio, trabajo, econ&oacute;micos, ambientales y otros, que en alg&uacute;n momento pueden influir m&aacute;s que el volumen de entrenamiento. (P&eacute;rez, Solanas, Ferrer, 1993; Cockerill, Nevill y Lyons, 1991).</font></font>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[</ul> <ul>   <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">6-&nbsp;&nbsp; La ira, que usualmente es vista como un concepto negativo, podr&iacute;a ser un atributo positivo en ambientes deportivos. (Morgan, 1972).</font></font>     </ul> <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font>     <br> <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Una raz&oacute;n importante para efectuar esta investigaci&oacute;n, es que en Costa Rica nunca se ha realizado nada similar, por lo que se estar&iacute;a incursionando en la investigaci&oacute;n en este campo tan importante y digno de tomarse en cuenta en la preparaci&oacute;n general de un atleta; por lo tanto, los prop&oacute;sitos de esta investigaci&oacute;n son: a) Determinar la influencia de la carga de entrenamiento en los estados an&iacute;micos. b) Determinar hasta que punto influyen los estados de &aacute;nimo en el nivel de perfomance de nadadores.</font></font>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font>     <br> <b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Metodolog&iacute;a</font></font></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1"><b><u>Primera fase:</u></b> "Relaci&oacute;n de las cargas de entrenamiento con estado de &aacute;nimo".</font></font> </p>     <p><b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Sujetos</font></font></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">En esta fase se utilizaron tres grupos con cargas de entrenamiento distintas, que pertenecen a dos equipos distintos de nataci&oacute;n. Un grupo consta de 11 nadadores (7 hombres y 4 mujeres); otro de 3 mujeres y un tercer grupo de 6 nadadores (3 hombres y 3 mujeres).</font></font> </p>     <p><b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Instrumento de medici&oacute;n</font></font></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">El instrumento de medici&oacute;n utilizado fue Profile of Mood States (POMS), que involucra 6 escalas de &aacute;nimo, que son: tensi&oacute;n, depresi&oacute;n, hostilidad, vigor, fatiga y confusi&oacute;n, con las que se obtienen los perfiles de estado de &aacute;nimo.</font></font> </p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Consta de 65 &iacute;temes con una escala de 0 a 4 puntos, en donde 0 es nada, 1 un poco, 2 moderadamente, 3 bastante y 4 extremadamente. (ver <a href="#Anexo+N%BA1">anexo 1</a>)</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Al ser un test estandarizado, hay normas establecidas para hombres y mujeres que utilizan puntajes T para su interpretaci&oacute;n. La carga de entrenamiento se midi&oacute; con el reporte de los entrenadores.</font></font> </p>     <p><b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Procedimientos</font></font></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Para esta primera fase se realizaron 8 mediciones del POMS a trav&eacute;s de 4 meses, o sea, una medici&oacute;n cada 15 d&iacute;as, estas mediciones se hac&iacute;an individualmente antes de los entrenamientos.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Los entrenadores reportaron las cargas de entrenamiento al iniciar el per&iacute;odo de estudio.</font></font> </p>     <p><b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">An&aacute;lisis estad&iacute;stico</font></font></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Con los datos obtenidos de la primera fase, se procedi&oacute; a sacar promedios, puntajes T y correlaciones de Pearson.</font></font>     <br> <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font>     <br> <b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font></b>     <br> <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1"><b><u>Segunda fase:</u></b> "Relaci&oacute;n entre estados de &aacute;nimo y perfomance".</font></font> </p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Sujetos</font></font></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">En esta fase, el grupo de nivel internacional que se prepar&oacute; para participar en los V Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos, El Salvador 1994, fue de 8 nadadores (7 mujeres y 1 hombre).</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">En la segunda competencia, el grupo fue de 10 nadadores (7 mujeres y 3 hombres) Este es un grupo de nivel nacional, los nadadores se prepararon para participar en la edici&oacute;n n&uacute;mero 16 de los Juegos Nacionales Santa Cruz, 1994.</font></font> </p>     <p><b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Instrumento de medici&oacute;n</font></font></b>     <br> <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font>     <br> <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">El instrumento de medici&oacute;n utilizado fue el Profile of Mood States (POMS), descrito anteriormente.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">La perfomance se midi&oacute; por medio de la evaluaci&oacute;n de los entrenadores usando una escala de 1 a 5 en donde 1 es muy por debajo de las expectativas, 2 es por debajo de las expectativas, 3 es cumpli&oacute; con las expectativas, 4 es por encima de las expectativas y 5 es muy por encima de las expectativas.</font></font> </p>     <p><b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Procedimientos</font></font></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Para esta fase se escogieron dos competencias importantes: una internacional, los V Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos Salvador 1994; y una nacional, la edici&oacute;n n&uacute;mero 16 de Los Juegos Nacionales Santa Cruz, 1994.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">En estas dos competencias se realizaron 4 mediciones en diferentes etapas: la primera fue una semana antes, la segunda un d&iacute;a antes, la tercera una hora antes y la cuarta una hora despu&eacute;s de la competencia.</font></font> </p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Al terminar la competencia, el entrenador realiz&oacute; la evaluaci&oacute;in de cada nadador.</font></font> </p>     <p><b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">An&aacute;lisis estad&iacute;stico</font></font></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Con los datos obtenidos de las dos pruebas se procedi&oacute; a sacar promedios, puntajes T., an&aacute;lisis de varianza de 1 v&iacute;a y correlaciones de Pearson.</font></font>     <br> <b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font></b>     <br> <b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font></b>     <br> <b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Resultados</font></font></b> </p>     <p><b><u><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Primera fase</font></font></u></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Como puede apreciarse en el <a href="#Cuadro1">cuadro No. 1</a>, no existe una relaci&oacute;n entre los cambios en el volumen de entrenamiento y los cambios en el estado an&iacute;mico. De las 18 correlaciones obtenidas, solo dos (depresi&oacute;n en el grupo de ACANA 2, y hostilidad en el grupo de ACANA 1) fueron significativas. <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Para determinar la relaci&oacute;n entre el estado an&iacute;mico y la performance se hicieron an&aacute;lisis de correlaciones, como se muestra en los <a href="#Cuadro3">cuadros </a><a  href="#Cuadro3">No. 3</a> y <a href="#Cuadro4">No. 4</a>. Lo primero que se observa es que no hubo cambios consistentes en el grupo de nadadores de nivel nacional, mientras que en el grupo de &eacute;lite, si se dieron patrones consistentes de cambio en varias escalas. La escala de hostilidad evidenci&oacute; un aumento sistem&aacute;tico indicando que aquellos nadadores que estuvieron m&aacute;s agresivos antes de la competencia rindieron mejor. <body><![CDATA[<br> <b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font></b>     <br> <b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Discusi&oacute;n</font></font></b>     <p><b><u><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Primera fase</font></font></u></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">La falta de significancia en la relaci&oacute;n entre el volumen de entrenamiento y los cambios en el estado an&iacute;mico (<a href="#Cuadro1">Cuadro No. 1</a>), se puede atribuir a que el n&uacute;mero de individuos es muy peque&ntilde;o, o porque las cargas de entrenamiento no se realizaron en la forma que el entrenador las planific&oacute;, ya que no se llev&oacute; un control individual y estricto de las cargas reales con las que cumpli&oacute; cada nadador, por lo que para pr&oacute;ximas investigaciones se sugiere que se haga.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">La correlaci&oacute;n significativa entre hostilidad y perfomance en el grupo de ACANA 1, seg&uacute;n Morgan (1972), es un atributo positivo en ambientes deportivos.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">La significativa correlaci&oacute;n en la variable de depresi&oacute;n en el grupo de ACANA 2, puede deberse a un alto volumen de entrenamiento, esto lo afirma Morgan (1985).</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Cramer, Nieman y Lee (1991), estudiaron la relaci&oacute;n entre el ejercicio de entrenamiento moderado y el estado de &aacute;nimo y los puntajes del POMS y no estuvieron relacionados significativamente con el ejercicio de entrenamiento y esto corrobora lo encontrado en esta investigaci&oacute;n.</font></font>     <br> &nbsp; </p>     <p><b><u><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Segunda fase</font></font></u></b> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">En cuanto a los cambios en el estado an&iacute;mico antes de la competencia, los resultados se pueden deber a que la competencia en El Salvador (nivel internacional) era m&aacute;s significativa, pues representaban a Costa Rica ante otros pa&iacute;ses; adem&aacute;s el entrenamiento fu&eacute; m&aacute;s fuerte.</font></font> </p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">El grupo de Santa Cruz (nivel nacional) no asist&iacute;a a una competencia muy importante, por lo que la presi&oacute;n era menor, adem&aacute;s este grupo est&aacute; formado por los dos mejores equipos del pa&iacute;s que participan en esa competencia, por lo que la presi&oacute;n no era mucha.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Seg&uacute;n Rudik (1982), los estados emocionales durante las competiciones, tienen siempre un car&aacute;cter muy tenso y se reflejan en los grandes esfuerzos para triunfar o lograr mejores marcas, y por su intensidad, superan los estados de &aacute;nimos de la actividad cotidiana.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Cockerill, Nevill y Lyons (1991) afirman que los estados an&iacute;micos son estados emocionales transitorios y que pueden verse influidos por un complejo de personalidad y factores ambientales; en esa misma l&iacute;nea se expresan P&eacute;rez, Solanas y Ferrer (1993).</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Los resultados encontrados en la relaci&oacute;n entre el estado an&iacute;mico y la perfomance, parecen ser muy l&oacute;gicos, pues los nadadores que rindieron mejor, se sent&iacute;an con m&aacute;s vigor una hora despu&eacute;s de la competencia, no as&iacute; los que obtuvieron un bajo rendimiento.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Se confirma lo que dice Morgan (1972), que la hostilidad es un atributo positivo en ambientes deportivos, pues aqu&iacute; se encontr&oacute; que los nadadores que estuvieron m&aacute;s hostiles o agresivos rindieron mejor.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Morgan (1985), dice que los atletas catalogados como ansiosos, depresivos, hist&eacute;ricos, neur&oacute;ticos, introvertidos, confundidos, pueden ser menos capaces de triunfar que aquellos que tengan mente positiva y una buena salud mental.</font></font> </p>     <p><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">En s&iacute;ntesis, los resultados corroboran investigaciones previas y reafirman el concepto de que una adecuada preparaci&oacute;n psicol&oacute;gica es un elemento fundamental en el rendimiento &oacute;ptimo de atletas de &eacute;lite.</font></font>     <br> <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font>     <br> <font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">&nbsp;</font></font>     <br> <b><font face="Arial,Helvetica"><font size="-1">Bibliograf&iacute;a</font></font></b> </p>     ]]></body>
