Sin embargo, esta cucurbitácea es atacada por Ascochyta phaseolorum, un hongo causante de una enfermedad que produce manchas blancas en los frutos y ocasiona pérdidas importantes para los productores. Para prevenir este daño es importarte tener medidas de control adecuadas, basadas en la identificación certera del patógeno. El objetivo general de esta investigación consistió en la implementación de una metodología de identificación con microscopía óptica y a la vez se utilizan métodos moleculares que permiten una identificación correcta del patógeno a partir de material vegetativo de chayote en el campo, para su uso en futuros trabajos de control de esta enfermedad. La metodología permitió identificar a nivel molecular y con un alto porcentaje de certeza que el patógeno pertenece al género Ascochyta; la identificación con microscopía óptica basada en las estructuras del patógeno reveló que se trata de A. phaseolorum.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The chayote (S. edule) has increased its production in recent years, with the export of fruit as an important source of income for national producers. However, this gourd is attacked by Ascochyta phaseolorum, which generates white spots on the fruits that cause significant losses for producers. To prevent such damage is important to have appropriate measures of control, which are based on the accurate identification of the pathogen. Therefore, the overall objective of this research was to implement a methodology for identification by light microscopy and molecular methods that allow accurate identification of the pathogen from plant material of chayote field for future work to control this disease. The methodology identified at the molecular level with a high percentage of certainty that the pathogen belongs to the genus Ascochyta, identification by light microscopy-based structures revealed that this pathogen is A. phaseolorum.]]></p></abstract>
