Esta herramienta cuenta con diversos modos de operación, algunos de ellos son: estáticos, dinámicos, tapping y contacto, entre otros. De igual forma, posee diversas geometrías de la punta del cantilever, por lo que escoger la adecuada es un paso crucial en cualquier investigación que desee usar el AFM. El objetivo del presente estudio es brindar un conocimiento general del AFM desde sus modos de operación hasta el uso de este en la investigación de los asfaltos. Se concluye que el Microscopio de Fuerza Atómica se emplea en el estudio de los asfaltos para analizar las propiedades microscópicas del mismo y comprender cómo estas impactan las propiedades macroscópicas del material.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The Atomic Force Microscope is used to obtain superficial images with high resolution. As well, to acquire information about the mechanical properties of a material. This tool has several operation modes, such as static, dynamic, tapping and contact, among others. It is worth to mention that cantilever has several geometries, then choosing the right one is a crucial step in any investigation that uses AFM. The focus of this article is to give a broad outlook of the AFM, from its operation modes to its applications in asphalt studies. Upon this article, the AFM is highly used in asphalts to analyse the microscopic properties and to understand how these properties impact its macroscopic performance.]]></p></abstract>
