A pesar de su importancia se encuentran amenazados, principalmente en áreas urbanas, debido a su acelerado crecimiento demográfico y a diversas actividades antropogénicas. En este estudio se emplean técnicas de percepción remota para analizar la pérdida de humedales en la ciudad de San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México, entre los años 2016 y 2022 mediante escenas multiespectrales Sentinel-2. Los resultados evidencian una alta precisión en la clasificación de las coberturas de suelo (98.60 % en el 2016 y 99.29 % en el 2022). Las áreas de humedales disminuyeron principalmente por la transición a áreas urbanas y suelos agrícolas, con una pérdida de 84.42 ha y una tasa de cambio anual de un 2.58 % en un periodo de seis años; sin la implementación de políticas de desarrollo sustentable, estos ecosistemas podrían desaparecer y con ellos los servicios ecosistémicos que proveen.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Wetlands provide various ecosystem services, thanks to their hydrological, biochemical and biological processes, which makes them fundamental ecosystems for the earth. Despite their importance, they are threatened, mainly in urban areas due to their accelerated population growth and various anthropogenic activities. In this study, remote sensing techniques are used to analyze the loss of wetlands in the city of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico between 2016 and 2022 using Sentinel-2 multispectral scenes. Wetland areas decreased, mainly due to the transition to urban areas and agricultural soils, with a loss of 84.42 ha and an annual rate of change of 2.58% over a six-year period; without the implementation of sustainable development policies, these ecosystems could disappear and with them the ecosystem services they provide.]]></p></abstract>

Este estudo utiliza técnicas de sensoriamento remoto para analisar a perda de pântanos na cidade de San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México, entre 2016 e 2022, utilizando imagens multiespectrais do Sentinel-2.
