Los genotipos de pepino iniciaron cosecha a los 31 días después del trasplante (ddt) en la época seca, y entre los 28 y 30 ddt en la época lluviosa. En términos generales, durante la época seca los frutos presentaron una mayor longitud, un menor diámetro, un mayor peso, y un mayor porcentaje de sólidos solubles totales, en comparación con los de la época lluviosa. El número total de frutos por planta y el rendimiento total y comercial fueron mayores en la época lluviosa, en comparación con la época seca. Sin embargo, la interacción genotipo x época de producción fue significativa o altamente significativa para todas las variables evaluadas. Los genotipos Corinto y primavera presentaron un mayor rendimiento comercial en la época seca, por lo que se consideran como poseedores de genes de tolerancia al calor, los cuales pueden ser aprovechados en fitomejoramiento para enfrentar la amenaza del calentamiento global y del cambio climático.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Eleven cucumber genotypes were grown under greenhouse and hydroponic conditions in Alajuela, Costa Rica in two different production seasons (dry and rainy) to compare their yield and quality. The harvest of all genotypes started 31 days after transplant (dat) in the dry season, and between 28 and 30 dat in the rainy season. In general, cucumber fruits were longer, thinner and heavier, and showed higher percentage of total soluble solids, when produced during the dry season. Conversely, the total number of fruits per plant, and total and commercial yields, were higher when produced during the rainy season. However, genotype x production-season interaction was significant or highly significant for all evaluated variables. Corinto and Primavera genotypes showed higher commercial yield in the dry season and they seem to have heat tolerance genes, which can be used in plant breeding to face the threat of global warming and climate change.]]></p></abstract>
