También está aumentando el nivel del mar, la velocidad de los vientos, la evaporación, la transferencia de calor sensible, la energía del oleaje y la erosión costera. Las series de mayor resolución espacial que se estudiaron dentro del golfo, indican que la salinidad está aumentando y que la clorofila y oxígeno disuelto disminuyen. Todas estas variaciones son coherentes dentro de un marco de calentamiento global, con el cual se establecerá una mayor estratificación en la columna de agua, menor transferencia de nutrientes a las aguas superficiales, lo cual generará un desplazamiento de especies, y posible invasión de otras. El aumento del nivel del mar y el aumento en la energía del oleaje, indica que habrá más erosión costera, pérdida de habitas marinos, desplazamiento de poblaciones costeras, salinización de pozos, etc.Los resultados en general obtenidos en este estudio, demuestran un impacto visible del calentamiento global en el Golfo de Nicoya y una proyección de pérdida de productividad en las aguas que ya están, o van a tener, consecuencias para las pesquerías de las zonas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: It is shown that both in the exterior and in the interior of the Gulf of Nicoya the sea surface temperature is increasing. Sea level, wind speed, evaporation, sensitive heat transfer, wave energy and coastal erosion are also increasing. The series of higher spatial resolution studied in the gulf indicate that salinity is increasing and that chlorophyll and dissolved oxygen decrease. All these variations are coherence within a framework of global warming. There will be greater stratification in the water column, and this implies a lower transfer of nutrients in to the surface waters. The variation in some oceanic variables implies a displacement of species, and possible invasion of others. The rise in sea level and the increase in wave energy indicate that there will be more coastal erosion, loss of marine habitats, displacement of coastal populations, salinization of wells, etc. The overall results obtained in this study, show a visible impact of global warming in the Gulf of Nicoya, and a projection of lost productivity in waters that are already, or will have, consequences for the fisheries of the zones.]]></p></abstract>
