Se analizó el efecto de las condiciones climáticas y características del sistema sobre el conteo de células somáticas (CCS) y la concentración de los sólidos totales (ST), la grasa, la proteína (PC) y la lactosa de la leche, en un sistema de producción ubicado en Turrialba, Cartago, durante 52 semanas entre los años 2009 y 2010. Para tal fin, se recolectaron 784 muestras de leche de 100 ml de 19 animales en producción, las cuales se analizaron por medio de la metodología descrita por la FOSS Electric A/S para el equipo MilkoScan TM FT 120 Type 71200 para la determinación de los componentes, mientras que los conteos de células somáticas se realizó según la metodología descrita para el equipo Fossomatic Serie 400. Entre las variables climáticas analizadas, la temperatura afectó el contenido de ST, la grasa y la lactosa (p&lt;0,05), la precipitación se relacionó solo con los ST y el contenido de PC con la radiación. En el caso de la humedad relativa, esta variable fue significativa para el CCS, ST, grasa y lactosa. Dentro de las variables del sistema, el animal y los días de lactancia, son significativas para CCS y los componentes de la leche, el número de parto se relacionó al contenido de grasa, PC y lactosa. Mientras que, la edad de los animales analizados y el nivel de producción afecto los contenidos de ST, grasa, PC y lactosa. El mes afectó los contenidos de ST, PC y lactosa, y el año de muestreo fue significativo para las cinco variables evaluadas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[AbstractClimatic conditions affect milk production in the humid tropics. They have an effect on somatic cell count (SCC) and total solids (TS), fat, protein (CP) and lactose concentration in milk. We studied these variables in Turrialba, Costa Rica, for 52 weeks between 2009 and 2010. We collected 784 samples (100 ml each) of milk from 19 animals and analyzed them with the FOSS Electric A/S for MilkoScan TM FT 120 Type 71200. Somatic cell count was done with the 400 Series Fossomatic. Temperature affected TS, fat and lactose content (p &lt;0.05), precipitation affected the TS and CP content correlated with radiation. Humidity affected SCC, TS, fat and lactose. Within system variables, animal and lactation days are significant for SCC and milk components; calving number was related to fat content, CP and lactose. Age and milk production affect TS, fat, CP and lactose. Month affected TS, CP and lactose content. All variables changed with the year.]]></p></abstract>
